MARTA MATÉ TEMPRANILLO PACKS

Long description

Our Winery

The inspiration behind the creation of Bodegas Martamate began in 2008. We had been successfully producing wines from our vineyard in Gumiel de Mercado for several years but, in 2008, we used the best of these grapes to create an exclusive wine, limited to the production of only 3000 bottles.

This first wine, which responds to the name Primordium (which means: the origin, the beginning) had a magnificent reception and was acclaimed by critics and wine connoisseurs (95 Parker points).

It was then when we decided to consolidate our inspiration and experience to create our own winery. We come together as a team with a shared philosophy and goal: to produce quality wine that celebrates all that is good in life.

In May 2013, our ideas were literally realized; We acquired some warehouses in Tubilla del Lago, Burgos, within the designation of origin area for Ribera del Duero wines. The Marta Maté Winery was born: a simple, flat building in the countryside dedicated solely to the production of a limited quantity of top quality wine.
Preparation and production

We make marta maté wines with the best possible ingredient: Tinto Fino grapes from our estate in Gumiel de Mercado and our vineyards in Tubilla del Lago. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand and collected in traditional 12 kg baskets. They are then classified on the selection table according to their quality.

Our goal is to preserve the physical characteristics of the grapes by carefully removing by hand, prior to the pumping process, any damaged, moldy grapes or any other matter. The best quality grapes are naturally crushed by gravity and fermented in conical tanks to concentrate the natural aromas.

Malolactic fermentation and wine maturation take place in 225-liter French oak and 600-liter American oak barrels. We also use wooden barrels with a capacity of 2300 liters.

The area for maturing the wine in these barrels is located in the southern part, under the building, where there is continuous and exhaustive control.

The geographical context

The wineries are located in Tubilla del Lago, a town in the south of the province of Burgos bathed by the Gromejón River. It is located north of the designation of origin area for Ribera del Duero wines.

The name of the town is of medieval origin and derives from the word "toba", which means white stone, typical of the soil of the area.

This town, which dates back to the 9th century, has a long wine-growing tradition and many underground wineries are still preserved under the streets.

However, we have our own exclusive and unique vineyards, to which we lavish great care and attention and, in return, we are rewarded with wonderful grapes. These grapes are transformed by a team of people who want nothing more than to create the best and most distinctive wines: our wines.
